Introduction

Mandate of the Fisheries department is to increase fish production by optimum utilization of all water bodies, to create infrastructure for post-harvest management, to develop an enabling eco-system for adoption of scientific pisciculture, to strive for socio- economic uplift of the fishermen at large and to ensure availability of fish at affordable cost to the masses.

With that end in view, endeavour is being made by the Fisheries Department to Increase fish production through various means like bringing more water bodies under scientific pisciculture, ensuring access of nutritionally balanced fish feed and high-quality fish seed/fingerlings to the fish farmers, dissemination of scientific knowledge about improved techniques of pisciculture, imparting hands-on training to farmers etc.

Different Schemes –

  1. Old Age Pension for Fishermen under Jai Bangla.
  2. Introduction of cold chain system & supply of insulated boxes for preservation of fish and fish by-products.
  3. Distribution of minikilts, water conditioner etc., development of social fisheries and integrated fishing.
  4. Fishing nets and fishery requisites in inland fisheries sector.
  5. Development of reservoir fisheries, sewage-fed fisheries and air-breathing fish culture.
  6. Grant and managerial subsidy to primary/central fishermen’s co-operative societies.
  7. Construction and management of echo-hatchery, and portable hatcheries.
  8. Training of fish farmers and unemployed fishermen, holding of fish farmers’ field day, educational tour etc.
  9. Development of infrastructural facilities in inland fishing villages.
  10. Inland housing.
  11. Project for reclamation of beels for enhanced fish production.
  12. Economic upliftment of Tribal people through operation of pisciculture development.
  13. Scheme under Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY).
  14. Matsyajibi Credit Card (MJCC)
